You read that right. This is not ‘about me’ or ‘about us’ (as an organization), but ‘about us’ (as society.)
This website came to life after reading this two inspirational sentences by Anthony de Mello in One Minute Wisdom:
Why is everyone here so happy except me? ‘Because they have learned to see goodness and beauty everywhere,’ said the Master.
Why don’t I see goodness and beauty everywhere? ‘Because you cannot see outside of you what you fail to see inside.’
At that moment, I had some kind of epiphany where I knew there could be something where to tackle those two sentences in one single place.
The Awe Effect is a place created to shift people’s attention from negativity and mistrust to beauty, goodness and inspiration through daily moments of awe. Applying daily the habit of seeking beauty and inspiration will focus our awareness into all the great things we have around us that we have learnt not to see. This, in turn, will be the activator to trust again in ourselves, in others and in something bigger than ourselves connecting us all.
The goal of this platform is not to just provide you with nice moments of delight to strengthen your gratitude and appreciation muscles, but to go one step further.
In order to change your world and therefore change THE world, we’ll need to let these moments of inspiration activate something inside ourselves that we will apply outside. That is, the awe effect takes place in the moment we apply the feeling we get with these moments of awe and put it into practice in the real life, outside this computer screen, outside the online world. That’s why you will find one or two questions at the end of the posts that the editors of this site will publish in order to help you put that inspiration into practice in your life.
And since this is about improving our lives and the lives of others, this platform needs to be a shared piece of art. Everyone’s moments of awe published here will contribute to someone else that needs to feel that precise feeling that your contribution is adding to the site.
Here, you don’t have to be cautious of whether what you post is too cheesey. As long as the content awaken your goose bumps and inspires you to grow and contribute something possitive to your family, friends, collegues or the world, you are very welcome to post it.
As Buckminster Fuller once said:
If you want to teach people a new way of thinking, don’t bother trying to teach them. Instead, give them a tool, the use of which will lead to new ways of thinking.
I hope that The Awe Effect, with your help, will become that tool that will lead to new ways of thinking, will awaken dormant feelings of appreciation and gratitude and will help people thrive.
With much appreciation,
